How to use Metered-Dose Inhaler
Using the inhaler properly is important when you have asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
1.Hold the inhaler upright between fingers and thumb with your thumb on the base. Remove the mouthpiece cover (cap) and shake the inhaler 3-4 times before use.
2.Breathe out as far as is comfortable. Do not breathe into the inhaler.
3.Hold the inhaler in one of these two ways.
3.1 Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and close your lips around it.
- Tilt your head back slightly.
- Start to breathe in slowly through mouth and at the same time press down firmly on the top of the inhaler while still breathing in steadily and deeply.
- Take the inhaler from your mouth while holding your breath.
- Hold your breath for about 10 seconds.
- Breathe out slowly.
If you use this method, less medicine gets to your lungs and most remains in the back of your mouth.

3.2 Hold inhaler 3 – 4 centimeters in front of your widely opened mouth.
- Tilt your head back slightly.
- Start to breathe in slowly through mouth and at the same time press down firmly on the top of the inhaler while still breathing in steadily and deeply.
- Take the inhaler from your mouth while holding your breath.
- Hold your breath for about 10 seconds.
- Breathe out slowly.
This method helps get the medication into the lungs better. It brings about less medicine remain in the mouth.
Clean the inhaler and cap by rinsing them in warm running water. Let them dry.
Repeat puffs as directed by your doctor. Wait 1 minute before taking the second puff.
