Ispaghula husk 3.5 mg/5 g granule for oral solution (MUCILIN SF)
Indications
- Treatment of chronic constipation.
- Promote regularity of bowel movement by increasing stool volume, making it softer and easier to pass out. It is suitable for patients with anal fissure, haemorrhoids.
- Treatment of patients requiring a high fiber regimen: for example, in patients with constipation-dominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
- As adjunct to lipid-lowering diet in patients with hypercholesterolemia. Click to listen highlighted text! Contraindications and precautions
1.Do not use in the patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
2.Do not use in the patients who have difficulty in swallowing or any throat problems.
3.Do not use in the patients with a sudden change in bowel habit that has persisted more than two weeks, undiagnosed rectal bleeding, and failure to defecate following the use of a laxative.
4.Do not use in the patients suffering from abnormal constrictions in the gastro-intestinal tract, with diseases of the oesophagus and cardia, intestinal obstruction.
5.Use is not recommended in children below 6 years of age due to insufficient efficacy data on treatment of chronic constipation and making stool softer.
6.Use is not recommended in children below 12 years of age due to insufficient efficacy data on treatment of patients requiring a high fiber regimen.
7.This medication should not be used by patients with faecal impaction and symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting because these symptoms can be signs of potential or existing intestinal blockage (ileus).
8.This medication should not be used if you have phenylketonuria (PKU) because it contains aspartame.
9.Diabetic patients or patients with thyroid disease should take this medication only under medical supervision because adjustment of therapy may be necessary. Click to listen highlighted text! Recommendations of drug use
- Mix the powder with a full glass (150 cc) of cool water or other liquid such as fruit juice or milk.
- Stir briskly and drink immediately.
- Followed by an additional glass of water or other drinking liquid.
- Take Ispaghula Husk 1-2 times per day after meals (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). Do not take Ispaghula Husk immediately before going to bed since it may cause sub-obstruction.
- When preparing the product for administration, it is important to try to avoid inhaling any of the powder in order to minimize the risk of sensitization to the active ingredient.
- The product should be taken at least 1 hour before or after intake of other medicine in order to prevent the effect on the absorption of other medicine.
- If there has been no bowel movement after three days of treatment, or if abdominal pain occurs, or in cases of any irregularity of faeces, the use of this medication should be discontinued and medical advice must be sought.
